I'm alot more likely to buy L4D than QW with what I know between both games.

But I was wondering a few things...

Does L4D have a single or co-op story mode?

When playing online is it Humans VS Humans, or Humans VS Zombies, or other?

What game can it compare to in gameplay and control, is it like CS:Source?

Thanks!

It has both. They both use the same maps, just different degrees of difficulty ie more zombies attacking and each hit on you doing more damage. **Edit to say it's not really a story line type game. It's like you start in a city and work your way to the hospital roof for extraction by helicopter in the finale. That's just one example, not to say new, custom maps in the future may not follow more of a story. Just guessing though.

Either one, you choose. You can play with up to 4 humans and go through the maps as a team. You can also play 4 humans versus 4 humans. One team starts as special infected with zombie bot support. Then you switch sides and play as humans. Back and forth until the campaign is over.

What game can it compare to in gameplay and control, is it like CS:Source?

Never played anything online other than ET so I can't say. I can say it's nothing even close to ET though.

Thanks!

It's a horror-survival style game, and there aren't many like it. The closest thing you can get to it is something like zombie panic source, which is a sourcemod of hl2/css which has survivors and zombies fighting, but not really anything to accomplish. To compare it to css, the closest thing you could get (for coop) would be to get 4 people on one team and spawn a ton of bots with knifes, that's actually where the idea for the game came from. In l4d you're trying to work towards getting rescued, think of 28 days later type mentality.

I will say if you play it like it's et, you will be downed a lot, especially on the harder difficulties or vs. Tight nit tactical teams are important, no jumping, running off, etc, or you won't last long. Vs is significantly different, because while the only main difference is the special infected are controlled by people, it does make a big difference. Vs is much more panicked, and even more team-oriented then coop.

VS is VERY different to regular coop. Once you have human special infected, you have the ability to coordinate attacks on the survivors. Bot infected sometimes all spawn at once, but often don't all attack at once, which is the major difference between coop and VS. The other main difference is how the survivors play VS. You have to be a lot more careful/thoughtful about how you go about moving through the map. Occasionally on coop you can get away with one/two people scouting a little bit ahead (not out of eyesight if possible though!) to look for weapons/explosives, but in VS, you will get owned if you do that.

My advice: Play L4D like it's an entirely new game and you've never played one of it's kind before. That way, you won't bring in dangerous tactics or skills that might work in a game like ET, but will get you killed in this. Start on easy or normal difficulty, and slowly work through all the campaigns in singleplayer, then try coop with humans, then finally VS once you know the ropes well enough. Also, READ the tips that the game gives you in the loading screens, these are really helpful for newbies, and once you start playing human coop, LISTEN to your more experienced teammates. Sometimes their suggestions/ideas might not make sense, but they know damn well what they're talking about, and you'll more than likely end up dead/pissing off the rest of your time if you don't listen.

And as always, have fun! L4D is a fantastic game, with lots of new things to learn and maps to explore. Enjoy!

Weapon, if you haven't gotten this game yet, get it! Awesome game. ET? whats that? lol

There is only one public BBA L4D server, if you are a member of our Steam group it will show up on your main game screen, problem is, its full almost 24/7. The other servers are reserved for division members to organize their own lobbys and connect to our servers.

Make sure your friends list is on and are a member of the Steam group and you can wait for invites from division members or find them in game and join if room is available.

I would suggest playing Co Op for quite awhile longer before venturing into a VS match, while I have heard alot of players say, "oh well, no big deal, I'll learn as I play" the problem is, someone trying to learn everything in a VS match severely hinders their team and.....tempers can get hot. lol

Zeus is talking for himself. shhh

Although yes, lots of coop play before VS = much better VS game for all involved.

Well to be honest, I don't know if i'll ever play vs, atleast not for a very long time, why? Not because I suck, unless it's BBA folk i'm playin with I could care less who I get killed =P But because i'm having a blast on CoOp, Already moved up to expert! Played Dead air and won three times in a row last night, then our team got owned on the first wave starting on blood harvest lmao

But yeah, I'll start on VS once Coop starts to get a bit dull and I need a change of pace. Playing special infected holds no appeal for me, I like killing zombies! Not being them wtg

I think everyone feels that way initially, you'll jump into Versus soon enough and then be begging for versus games....

Its a whole differant play style then CoOp

To me coop got old fast, especially if you play single player on expert enough. Eventually you know where the SI is going to be spawning to ambush you. Not to say it's easy but it's easier. That's not the case in versus.

You should try it several times before you decide not to anymore. Once you get a little practice you can start in on the BBA matches which are always fun.
