I am trying to save a second config to my etmain folder, But when I save the notepad document to the folder after creating it, it says, "I do not have administrative permission to do that. Would I like instead to save it to documents folder?" My problem is that I am the administrator since I am the only one using this computer. shrug However, the computer allows me to save it on etmain folder as a text document, but for some reason not as a cfg. document. huh Is there any way around this stupid issue? help
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium.

Can you change the filename? Like from .txt to .cfg and back?

Just out of curiosity, is this like another config that you want that you will use for custom binds, graphics settings, etc.?

If so, then the easiest way to create a new config is to copy the old one (meaning literally, copy and paste the old one in the same location--Vista will prompt with the option to keep both files and name the new one with a (1) added to it), then right click the copied file (the one with the (1) at the end of it)>>open with>>notepad. Then delete the contents and type your new contents. Then save. When you are out of the file, right-click and select rename, then name the file whatever you like. If when you rename the file, it puts the extension at the end of it (.txt), then change that to .cfg.

When you execute the file during the game is where you will need to distinguish the difference by the file name.

I hope this helps.

What are you doing when you get this error?

Rather, what are you doing to produce this error?

This is exactly what I did:

1.Open etmain folder from my computer.
2. Look for my working cfg file and copy and paste it again
3. Vista ask for permission to copy the file and then file is copied
4. The file now is called Name - Copy.cfg
5. Open file with notepad and delete everything inside and type everything new I want.
6. After I am ready to save and click on save under file it brings up that error or problem report.

Are you sure your account is the administrator?

Double check. Rather, if you know your account is the administrator, you will have to disable the user account control. Once you finish with your changes, you can turn it back on.

Here is how to disable your user account control (UAC).

Click start, then click on your picture above your account name at the top of the start menu>>click on Turn user account control on or off>>uncheck the box for user windows user account control.

Restart, then try to do your config file again. If it works, then your good. Personally, I would leave the user account control off. If it is your computer and yours alone, then you really don't have to worry about it. But if you are adamant about the annoying popups from the UAC, the re-enable it when you are finished.

Maybe. But, I turned it off from the time I built my computer. I hate annoying popups about changes. However, only my wife and I uses the computer and she knows better than to do any administrative tasks...she really don't know how to anyway.

I tried execing the file inside the server and it said cmd unknown. And it litterally acted as if I had et default keys. I then, checked the new config and saw that the name had a capital letter in the beginning and perhaps maybe I forgot to exec the config with the capital letter. shrug However, I noticed in the past when I was running ET on XP that the second config worked, but always gave you the same result,
Quote:
/exec Turtle 2.cfg
cmd unknown

I wonder if this is normal since the game had to memorize 2 configs or if it was a CP problem? duh

Notice the direction of the / and \... When specifying a local file/directory '\' is the folder separator whereas '/' is used for network paths.

If there is a space in the title of the config, you have to enclose it in "" but the .cfg is not necessary, so you could put
/exec "Turtle 2"
and it is NOT case specific.

My mistake here is what the game console gives me when I exec the config,
Quote:
/exec animality
cmd unknown "ode"

What does that mean? doh

Edit: The config is working, but the console gives me the above message still.
